The Monday Morning Memo

P.S.  I am reading Shadow of the Wind (as per a list you offered some time back), which I happened upon featured at the front desk of a used book store here in Santa Fe.  Some coincidences/synchronicities there.  One of which is the NYT Review of Books guy quoted on the back is the father of a colleague who I had met for the first time on my most recent job.

Speaking of personal coincidences (though this is a sad one), in the “Happy Birthday, Mia” pic in the last rabbit hole, you paraphrased that line from When Harry Met Sally, “I’d like what she’s having”, when Meg Ryan faked an orgasm in Katz’s Deli.  The woman who ultimately delivered the line was Rob Reiner’s mother, as she was visiting the set that day.

Initially, it was to go to a friend of my father’s (who just passed away a couple of weeks ago), an extra on set, but who also did voice-overs, as that was how the delivery of the line was first conceived. That amount of dialogue is referred to as an under-five (under 5 lines), and had she been able to do it, would’ve elevated her day rate beyond that of mere extra, in addition to all the subsequent notoriety. Alas, Mrs. Reiner elected to visit the day they were shooting those pages.
