“Ideas are the product of connections, both logical and illogical. Effective creativity is a merger of these logical and illogical thoughts together to form revolutionary new strategies and plans. Sadly, most Americans focus only on what has already been developed by others.” – Dave Lakhani, creator of Rapid Ideation Processing and Marketing Geonomics
According to Lakhani, Rapid Ideation Processing is a technique that gives people access to their own inner creative magic. “The essence of RIP is taking successful ideas from multiple, unrelated businesses and smashing them together to come up with new concepts that are instantly applicable to an identified client base. Then, using Marketing Geonomics, you can map the idea graphically so that others can SEE what you are saying, how it will work, whom it will influence, and where they might apply the new idea.” In a couple of weeks, Dave Lakhani will arrive in Austin to provide a 2-day, detailed explanation of his methods to Pennie and me and the staff. We can hardly wait.
Another interesting new friend is David Freeman, Hollywood's top coach of screenwriters for film and television. During his time as a student at Wizard Academy, (the Magical Worlds curricula, last week,) Dave mesmerized us with insider tales of Who, What and How in Hollywood. Interestingly, screenwriting is not so complicated or daunting as I had imagined. David and I are now discussing the possibility of adding an intimate, 2-day screenwriting workshop as a new Academy curriculum. Any interest? If so, email your encouragement to Pennie@WizardofAds.com. If enough people are interested in writing for TV and the movies, we'll make the seminar happen.
Jeff and Bryan Eisenberg (A.K.A. The Eisenboys) greatly exceeded everyone's expectations at the inaugural Wizards of Web conference. As you may remember, this curriculum sold out quickly and most of those who registered were already internet-savvy, so the pressure was really on the boys to perform. Pennie sat through the opening session and then came into my office with her eyes as big as I've ever seen. “You need to be in the Academy building. This stuff is great.” The Princess is always a little nervous when we launch a new curriculum, but I had spent time with Jeff and Bryan and Lisa so I knew exactly what to expect. I think perhaps Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best, “A man cannot utter two or three sentences without disclosing to intelligent ears precisely where he stands in life and thought, namely, whether in the kingdom of the senses and understanding, or, in that of ideas and imagination, in the realm of intuitions and duty. People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.” In other words, you don't have to talk to someone very long to have a sense of what they're made of.
We're making a lot of new friends in Austin. We hope you're having a great summer, too.
