The Princess of the World (foreground,) decided to put the original
Rolls Royce Spirit of Ecstasy (background,) under the veranda of
Spence Manor where it will overlook the Zubiate Courtyard. (Zu-bee-AH-tay)
“On Time Elmer” Zubiate, a longtime friend of Wizard Academy, funded a complete makeover of the courtyard at the entrance to Spence Manor,
including a fabulous new stone waterfall that burbles into a wandering
stream. Other students are now stepping up to help pay for the historic
statue by Charles Sykes, created as the original hood ornament for
Rolls Royce in 1914. It is 100 years old this year. Way Cool.
The Princess has been curating exactly the right plants to be featured
in the courtyard for more than 2 weeks. Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor
Whittington has been building Robert Hendrickson’s Thumb,
a funky greenhouse just outside the Zubiate Courtyard.
It had to be funky. No way around it. Hendrickson
became a gardener when his van broke down
during the 2,900 mile journey to Woodstock
in 1969.
The student mansions at Wizard Academy
are warehouses of legends.
