In 1983, 50 companies controlled 90% of media in the United States. Then came the Telecomunications Act of 1996 and a series of adjustments in the FCC’s regulations on media ownership during in the early 2000’s. This is when we saw the rise of Clear Channel, recently renamed iHeart.
So by 2012, that same 90% of all media was controlled by just 6 companies.
