Darth Vader and Snow White
As impossible as this might sound, the 6-minute film you’re about to see was begun in 1945 as a collaboration between “Snow White” Walt Disney and “Darth Vader” Salvador Dalí.
Can you believe these two ever met?
For a long time, the project remained a secret. It wasn’t completed until 2003.
Dalí called it, “A magical display of the problem of life in the labyrinth of time.”
Walt Disney said it was, “A simple story about a young girl in search of true love.”
Chronos is the personification of time. He is in love with a mortal girl. She seems to love him, too.
We see in the story the sands of time, the spidery legs of moonlit desire, the girl as a bell(e,) thoughts flying like the seeds of a dandelion puffball, and ants, Dalí’s symbol of death and decay. Then we hear – at about 3:30 – the romantic chorale of Disney as the film gains color, cheer and hope. Disney and Dalí. Who would’ve thunk it?
