The wizard’s memo today, the three-cornered continuum, and Pendulum page 186 in the rabbit hole brought my friend Craig Freshley and his Make Shift Coffee House project immediately to mind. I think that you’d really like what he’s doing.
Here’s a description, the bolding is mine:
“A Make Shift Coffee House is where people with differing political views can meet and learn from each other. There’s coffee and food and live music. Guided by a neutral moderator [that’s Craig, who moderates for a living, but this is his passion project] all voices and views are heard and respected.
It’s not about persuading each other. We ask questions and hear what’s important to the “other side.” It’s okay if we don’t agree. All are welcome. All that’s required is a desire to understand and the willingness to listen.”
What Craig is doing is making a difference for those willing to step in, and if Maine (where 39% of the voters elected a man more than half of us really dislike) can get along like this, anyone can.
