It's my great grandfather, Jack, on his ship in 1891.
Jack's ship was an Arctic icebreaker called The Cracker.
He was famous throughout the seven seas for a treat he'd make for his crew. Great grandad would mix popcorn and peanuts with molasses, then Bingo, the ship's cabin boy, would hide a little toy in every bowl.
When a food company copied his recipe, they named the treat after him. But when they suggested Jack should be the cabin boy and Bingo should be the dog, Great Grandad told them to kiss his hindquarters and refused to let them put his picture on the box.
So they hired a Vaudeville dog to pose for the logo.
