150 years ago, Benjamin Disraeli was in a heated discussion in British Parliament when his opponent resorted to an anti-Semitic epithet. Disraeli replied, “Yes, I am a Jew, and when the ancestors of the Right Honorable Gentleman were brutal savages in an unknown island, mine were priests in the Temple of Solomon.”
Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) was a novelist. He later became British Prime Minister. It seems his “Temple of Solomon” line had some impact. Politics, anyone?
