The Monday Morning Memo

“That was her song, for she was the maker. Then we,
As we beheld her striding there alone,
Knew that there never was a world for her
Except the one she sang and, singing, made.“

– excerpted from The Idea of Order at Key West

The lifesize bronze sculpture by Jane DeDecker, Into the Wind, has not yet been fully funded. Jane’s image of the determined female was Photoshopped onto the bridge overlooking the becauseway so that you can see what it will look like. We need just 19 more people to honor a woman who changed their life with a $1,000 donation. Will you be one of them? In return for your gift, the name of the woman you wish to honor will be cast in bronze with the names of 4 dozen other life-changing women, including Freda, [Rhodes, we think,] the aunt of Lorian Hemingway. We’ll have a tower party when the sculpture arrives (hopefully in the spring) and you and your guest will be invited. If you’d like us to whip up a card for you to send your honoree (Christmas? Valentine’s Day? Mother’s Day?) just let us know. We’ll put Into the Wind on the front and leave the interior blank for you to inscribe as you wish. Can you think of anything as permanent as her name in bronze at a destination visited by tens of thousands of guests each year? Chapel Dulcinea floats over the edge of a cliff just 100 yards away…  [ Questions? Jackie is in charge at 512-295-5700. Jackie@WizardAcademy.org ]

Random Quote:

“Just finished the first draft of the book. 53,000 words. About 40,000 are from Karen’s Caring Bridge journal.’

‘Excellent! For the record, 20,000 words is a good target for an encapsulated book of this sort. If you hold it to that length, you will find the book to be more concentrated, and with fewer holes through which attention can be lost. If you have 13,000 words of new content, limit yourself to using only 7,000 words from Karen’s 40,000-word Caring Bridge journal. This will force you to include only the most relevant, story-connected threads. This will be MUCH more interesting for the reader.'”
