Manley is from New Orleans, so the man knows food. I took him to Green Pastures, an Austin restaurant I felt might live up to his expectations.
Manley ordered a ribeye steak that arrived in a white peppercorn sauce. Very weird. I asked him if he liked it.
Swiping a dollop of the sauce onto his finger, Manley leaned forward and looked into my eyes as he held that dollop, forefinger extended and palm upward, above the center of the table:
“That’s the money, right there. If I rubbed this on your forehead, your tongue would slap you to death trying to get it.”
