Really bad, accidental video of a really fun moment. Adam Donmoyer is a professional musician as well as an ad writer for Wizard of Ads, Inc. This was his tribute to the wizard on March 29, 2008.
The BirthdayRoy Turns 50
Well it’s tough to write a song
For a man that I respect
Especially when I stop and think
He’s the one who signs my checks
Yes Roy Williams is my boss
So I’d rather not roast him.
But you see I’m at a loss as how
To go about and toast him.
But to quote the man who raised these walls
Maybe I “just need an old lady to knit me a pair of balls.”
Well happy birthday to the man
They used to say was wise beyond his years.
But now that he’s turned fifty, they’ll just say he’s wise.
Really, really wise.
The birthday-Roy born in Oklahoma
Dropped out of college with no diploma.
One day you’ll grow up and amount to something.
Alright seriously, look at what you’ve become.
Just look at all you’ve done.
Wow you’ve done a lot.
So much that sometimes between just you and me…
And Woody… and Pennie, Jake and Rex… and all the rest
I think that you have A.D.D.
Woops. There’s that crossing-the-line-job-in-jeopardy-thing I alluded to in my intro.
Perhaps I should explain…
I mean A.D.D respectfully.
It’s funny! Ha ha.
It’s like; you could have just been a best selling writer,
Or perhaps just a public speaker,
Or one heck of a good teacher,
But then you opened a school which is really pretty cool,
Your gift to the misfits of the world like me.
And let’s not forget your consulting agency.
And then there’s your wine label, pretty good wine,
I myself have had like 8 or 9 glasses…
But I digress. Don’t forget Wizard Academy Press
And Chapel Dulcinea with that fantastic bell…
And those are just the things that I remember off the top of my head…
Seriously dude, you don’t need an old lady to knit you anything.
Well, except maybe a cap.
Woops. Sorry ‘bout that.
I’ve got musical-tourettes.
Anyway, what’s next?
You gonna build a tower or something?
Roy, most of us are lucky to be good at just one or two things.
You’re good at like 50.
Like one thing for every year.
Happy Birthday Roy, the Wizard of A.D.D.
Happy Birthday Roy
And next week when you critique my song…
You’ll point out it was way too long.
With too many words
And not enough verbs
But I’ll push my luck and end with this,
Thank you Roy, you’re the shit…
We’re all here because we love you…
And we’re gonna sing happy birthday to you.
(cue the audience to sing)
