“Not long ago my Bible reading took me into several days of lengthy genealogies. One morning, in exasperation, I prayed, ‘Lord, what is the meaning of all these names?’ I didn’t expect an answer, but suddenly a thought sprang full-blown into my mind. It seemed God was saying, ‘I am a personal God and every individual is important to me. Every time you read a genealogy, I am reminding you that I know your name, as well as the names of your parents and grandparents.’

Needless to say, I will never read the genealogies the same way again. Now each time I read them I am reminded that God is a personal God and that He knows me and is involved in every aspect of my life.”
