Subject: equatorial sundial
Hi guys,
Here is the 2nd project that my little STEM club (Sci, Tech, Engin, Math) made – an equatorial sundial.
The stick (gnome) points north (to Polaris) at the latitude (43 deg Milwaukee). Sundial is accurate within 10 min – not bad for a backyard project. Polaris is the end star of handle of the little dipper.
Note: the hours on the sundial in the photos are backwards. .. we changed the markings so morning hours are marked on the west side of dial and pm hours marked on the east side of sundial.
Next project will be a small hen house for a neighbor. Our city allows only 4 hens so the house will be about 3 x 5 ft, with 2 floors (like a duplex). Top floor is for food, water, sleep, and laying eggs; bottom floor is for access to light and general recreation. There will be a door to a caged yard of about 40 sq ft.
If I like the hen house, I may build one for our yard. Marika and Susan like the idea.
Ciao,
Rich
