Today when I opened my copy of Patrick’s first book, The Name of the Wind, I saw that I had marked my favorite scene. It’s probably no one else’s favorite scene, but it makes me relive my courtship with Pennie.
We had graduated high school and were attending two different colleges. I dropped out on the second day and called her to suggest that she drop out and we get married and “figure it out on our own.” She said, “But we’re so young and poor. Don’t you think we should wait a couple of years?” I said, “In a couple of years we’ll still be young and poor.” She said, “You make a good point.” So she dropped out immediately and we were married 90 days later. That was 47 years ago. I made a Hi-rez photo for you, so you can zoom in on the book and read it if you choose. – Roy H. Williams
