Stories of shepherds float like driftwood down the river of time. Moses was tending his father-in-law's flock in the land of Midian when he noticed a bush that seemed to burn, but was not consumed. David was likewise tending sheep when he was selected to become king of Israel. And who can forget the angels that appeared to “shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night,” on the night that Jesus was born?
